Pulsed Laser Terminal
The Pulsed Laser Terminal (PLT) module is the fibre-based laser transmitter, of the Optel-µ optical communication system from Thales Alenia Space, that allows electro-optical data conversion at a high bandwidth. The integrated electronics ensures automatic control of the laser source and the EOM devices in accordance with the communication with the upper level system.
A special feature of the PLT is given by minimized mass, power consumption and very small volume, thereby the capability of high-speed optical downlinks also to micro-satellites that only can provide low mass and power margins.
The PLT sub-system was developed/qualified for space applications (TRL 8), according to ECSS (ESA).
